Security and Cryptography Research Intern at Seagate Technology

As a Security and Cryptography Research Intern, you will join an interdisciplinary team dedicated to this mission.

About The Role - You Will

  • Perform fundamental research in data security and contribute to peer-reviewed scientific papers.
  • Create formal analyses, design new algorithms, or develop prototype implementations that advance the field of data security.
  • Present your work to colleagues within Seagate and at external conferences.
  • Learn about and contribute to an understudied but fundamental pillar of the Internet, AI, and data science fields.
  • Collaborate with experts globally, both affiliated with Seagate and external partners.
  • Join an exciting cohort of students from diverse fields, including computer science, chemical & mechanical engineering, and biology.

About You

  • Possess programming skills in one or more languages such as Rust, Go, C, C++, or Python.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit strong teamwork abilities, communicating effectively with diverse groups of people.

Your Experience Includes

  • Essential familiarity with principles of cryptography and systems security.
  • Experience with formal verification, theorem provers, or provable security analysis.
  • Currently enrolled as an MS or PhD student in computer science or a closely related subject, and registered for Fall 2026 classes.

Location

Our Shakopee campus is located 25 minutes southwest of Minneapolis, offering a rural vibe with views of a horse racing track. The campus provides wide-open spaces for outdoor activities like running, biking, and sports. An on-site fully equipped fitness center hosts wellness programs and group workouts. Seagate also features an on-site café with freshly sourced foods and specialty coffees, with many local restaurants just minutes away.

The estimated base wage range for this position is $29-$43/hr. Individual base wage is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Seagate offers comprehensive benefits to eligible Interns, including medical, dental, vision, and participation in the employee stock purchase plan, plus 12 paid holidays and a minimum of 48 hours of paid sick leave.
