Scrut Automation is seeking a Software Development Engineer I to join their team. This role focuses on acting as a customer champion, providing expert technical guidance, and resolving complex product issues. You will leverage deep product knowledge and strong problem-solving skills to diagnose issues, drive resolutions, and contribute to customer-driven enhancements. Working closely with customers, Product, and Engineering, you will improve the overall product experience, with a strong emphasis on automation to reduce repetitive work and enhance system reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Support

• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in a Node.js-based application (Express, React.js, DynamoDB/MongoDB, AWS SQS).
• Communicate technical solutions clearly and effectively to customers.
• Document issues, resolutions, and learnings for internal knowledge sharing.

Technical Expertise

• Analyze and debug complex application issues across the stack.
• Identify and fix bugs while maintaining code quality and stability.
• Collaborate with Engineering to understand the codebase and implement solutions.

Automation & Efficiency

• Build scripts and tools to automate repetitive support tasks and workflows.
• Improve monitoring, alerting, and diagnostics through automation.
• Contribute to internal tooling, runbooks, and self-service capabilities.

Customer Enhancements

• Gather customer requirements and translate them into actionable enhancements.
• Work with Product and Engineering to prioritize and deliver features.
• Stay current with the Node.js ecosystem and AWS services.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in a Software Development Engineer or similar role.
• Hands-on experience with Node.js, React.js, and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB / MongoDB).
• Familiarity with AWS services and CI/CD tools.
• Experience or strong interest in building automation — scripts, tooling, and workflows.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote-first environment.
