About the role
- Principal Staff Core Engineer role, fully remote (U.S.-based), working on the Platform Engineering Team. This role reports to the Co-Founder and Head of Engineering.
- $180K–$220K base salary, plus outstanding benefits, equity opportunity, and the chance to help architect one of the industry's leading enterprise AI platforms.
- Serve as one of the senior technical leaders responsible for the architecture and evolution of The Firm's core AI platform.
- Own the design and development of mission-critical systems powering orchestration, agent memory, retrieval (RAG), tool execution, guardrails, observability, and platform infrastructure.
- Drive engineering strategy across multiple platform initiatives while establishing technical direction and long-term architecture.
- Partner directly with Engineering Leadership, Product, and Applied AI teams to build highly scalable, secure, enterprise-grade AI infrastructure.
- Lead complex technical initiatives from architecture through production deployment.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers while establishing engineering best practices across the organization.
- Influence platform reliability, scalability, developer productivity, and engineering excellence
across the company.
- Experience leading engineering organizations at high-growth AI, infrastructure, or cloud-native software companies is highly desirable.

As a Principal Staff Core Engineer, you will serve as one of the company's highest-level individual contributors, responsible for defining the technical architecture of the platform while solving some of the most challenging distributed systems and AI infrastructure problems in the industry.
You'll help shape the future of The Firm's agent platform by leading architecture across orchestration, memory, retrieval systems, observability, guardrails, tool execution, and cloud-native infrastructure.

What You'll Do
- Define and lead the long-term technical architecture of The Firm's enterprise AI platform.
- Architect and build highly scalable distributed systems supporting autonomous AI agents.
- Lead development of core platform capabilities including orchestration, RAG, memory, tool execution, observability, and AI governance.
- Drive engineering excellence through architecture reviews, design standards, and technical mentorship.
- Partner closely with executive leadership to establish engineering strategy and platform roadmap.
- Solve highly complex scalability, performance, reliability, and distributed computing challenges.
- Own production services supporting enterprise AI deployments across global customers.
- Mentor Staff, Senior, and Core Engineers while elevating engineering quality across the organization.
- Influence hiring, technical standards, and engineering culture.
- Collaborate across Product, Applied AI, Infrastructure, and Customer Engineering teams.
What You'll Need
- 10+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale distributed backend systems.
- Expert-level Python development experience.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, software architecture, cloud-native infrastructure, and platform engineering.
- Extensive experience designing highly available, scalable production systems.
- Strong experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and cloud operations.
- Proven success leading architecture across multiple engineering teams.
- Exceptional system design skills with expertise in APIs, microservices, concurrency, networking, and performance optimization.
- Leadership and mentoring abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction across engineering organizations.
Nice to Have
- Deep experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Agentic AI systems.
- Experience with orchestration frameworks, AI memory systems, RAG pipelines, Text2SQL, or AI guardrails.
- Experience building developer platforms or AI infrastructure products.
- Experience with Go.
- Familiarity with vector databases, retrieval systems, distributed caching, and observability platforms. • Contributions to open-source infrastructure or AI frameworks are highly valued.
