About the role

**FULLY REMOTE**

ScolerTec Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior UI/UX Front-End Engineer to support a modernization program at a federal agency. This is a hands-on UI implementation role focused on the visual and presentation layer of enterprise applications. The selected candidate will work with Human-Centered Design specialists, product owners, architects, and application developers to transform UX research, user workflows, wireframes, and low-fidelity mockups directly into polished, accessible, responsive, and production-ready application screens.

The Senior UI/UX Front-End Engineer will work across multiple development teams to create common and reusable UI components, shared HTML and CSS standards, responsive layouts, and accessible user-interface patterns. The role requires strong visual and interaction-design judgment, along with recent hands-on front-end development experience.

Key Responsilibilites

  • Translate UX research, requirements, workflows, wireframes, and low-fidelity mockups directly into polished and production-ready application screens.
  • Develop responsive and accessible user interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, Sass, JavaScript, and ReactJS.
  • Apply strong UI/UX design judgment involving layout, spacing, typography, visual hierarchy, responsive behavior, and interaction design.
  • Make appropriate visual and interaction decisions when complete high-fidelity mockups are not available.
  • Develop reusable ReactJS components, templates, styles, and shared UI-library assets.
  • Create common UI components and design patterns for use across multiple application-development teams.
  • Define and enforce UI/UX and front-end development standards to ensure consistency, quality, maintainability, and reuse.
  • Develop navigation, forms, form controls, error messages, loading states, empty states, modals, tables, alerts, and responsive interaction patterns.
  • Implement Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements directly in front-end code.
  • Ensure semantic HTML, keyboard accessibility, appropriate ARIA usage, screen-reader compatibility, logical focus management, and sufficient color contrast.
  • Ensure application screens function effectively across desktop, tablet, mobile, and other supported devices.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, UI Architects, Developers, and HCD Specialists to translate research findings and low-fidelity concepts into working interfaces.
  • Partner with Senior ReactJS Developers to ensure reusable UI components can be integrated with application state, APIs, authentication, business logic, and backend services.
  • Support rapid development, validation, and refinement of working screens within Agile sprint cycles.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, pull requests, sprint planning, demonstrations, and other Agile ceremonies.
  • Review completed interfaces for visual consistency, responsiveness, usability, accessibility, and compliance with established standards.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and Compliance teams to validate usability, accessibility, and responsive behavior in production releases.
  • Document reusable components, interaction patterns, accessibility standards, responsive behaviors, and front-end implementation guidance.
  • Troubleshoot browser compatibility, styling, layout, accessibility, usability, and multi-device rendering issues.
  • Provide guidance regarding UI consistency, interaction design, responsive behavior, accessibility, and design-system reuse.

Qualifications

  • Ten or more years of general experience in information systems.
  • Eight or more years of specialized experience in UI development, UX implementation, front-end development, or application development.
  • At least five years of recent hands-on front-end development experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree in accordance with program requirements.
  • Experience supporting enterprise, government, federal, or regulated applications.
  • Strong understanding of Agile or SAFe delivery and iterative UI development.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-communication skills.

Must have:

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience developing production application screens using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
  • Strong professional experience developing reusable components and user interfaces using ReactJS.
  • Strong experience with Sass or another CSS preprocessor.
  • Demonstrated experience converting wireframes or low-fidelity mockups directly into polished, working application screens.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, visual design, interaction design, usability, and information hierarchy.
  • Ability to make sound UI and interaction-design decisions without relying on complete high-fidelity specifications.
  • Experience developing reusable UI components, shared libraries, templates, or enterprise design-system assets.
  • Practical experience implementing Section 508 and WCAG accessibility requirements directly in front-end code.
  • Experience with semantic HTML, ARIA, keyboard navigation, focus management, screen-reader compatibility, accessible forms, and color contrast.
  • Demonstrated experience building responsive interfaces for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
  • Experience ensuring UI consistency across browsers, screen sizes, applications, and development teams.
  • Experience with Git, branching, pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD development workflows.
  • Experience working with HCD specialists, UX designers, application developers, architects, product owners, and quality-assurance teams.
  • Ability to demonstrate recent hands-on coding experience rather than experience limited to UX research, design, prototyping, or developer collaboration.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with TypeScript.
  • Experience with Storybook or similar component-development and documentation tools.
  • Experience implementing or maintaining an enterprise design system.
  • Experience with USWDS, Material UI, Bootstrap, or similar UI frameworks.

  • Experience developing applications deployed in AWS environments.
  • Certified Usability Analyst, Certified HCD Professional, Section 508 Trusted Tester, or a related certification.

Deliverable Alignment and Performance Outcomes:

  • Production-ready application screens developed directly from low-fidelity mockups, requirements, and user workflows.
  • Responsive and accessible HTML, CSS/Sass, JavaScript, and ReactJS code.
  • Reusable UI components and design patterns integrated into a shared UI library.
  • Standardized UI, CSS, responsive-design, and accessibility patterns used across applications.
  • UI and code artifacts delivered in alignment with Agile sprint objectives and front-end standards.
  • Compliance with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements.
  • Reduced post-release UI and accessibility defects through proactive development reviews, validation, and component reuse.
  • Improved consistency across applications through standardized UI patterns and shared components.
  • Improved development efficiency by enabling application teams to consume approved reusable UI components.
  • Measurable improvement in task completion, usability, accessibility, and user satisfaction.

Communication and Organization skills:

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Consultant mindset with the ability to work with senior customer stakeholders and build strong working relationships.
  • Strong analytical, visual, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to explain UI, accessibility, responsive-design, and development decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to establish standards and provide implementation guidance across multiple development teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional Agile team.

This is a fully remote opportunity to join an application-development team and transform HCD research and low-fidelity concepts into accessible, responsive, consistent, and production-ready digital experiences.
