About the DevOps Engineer Role

Science Systems & Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a full-time mid to senior-level DevOps Engineer to support multiple public-facing web applications. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to work with modern cloud technologies while ensuring high availability, security, and scalability across on-premises and AWS cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain web servers in on-premises and AWS environments.
  • Manage production server uptime, performance, and security.
  • Provision and configure development and testing environments.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensure compliance with government security standards and FedRAMP requirements.
  • Collaborate with developers to optimize deployment and system architecture.
  • Monitor system performance and perform proactive maintenance.
  • Manage containerized applications using Docker.
  • Design and implement backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and similar technologies.
  • Navigate complex organizational approval processes for infrastructure changes.
  • Serve as technical liaison between development, management teams, and IT departments.
  • Oversee deployment and quality monitoring of application code.
  • Provide technical backup support for Senior Developers.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years of DevOps/Systems Administration experience.
  • Strong experience in both on-premises and AWS cloud environments.
  • Proficiency with Docker containerization and Terraform for infrastructure management.
  • Knowledge of CloudFront, Apache, and Nginx web servers.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub and Bamboo) and SQL-based database practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • US Citizenship required.

Desired Qualifications

  • AWS training and certification.
  • Experience with additional AWS services and cloud security best practices.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools.
  • Scripting skills in Python, Bash, etc.
  • Experience with configuration management tools and understanding of FedRAMP requirements.
  • Experience supporting government systems and public-facing web applications.

Physical Requirements

This role requires standing, walking, manual dexterity, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities such as close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception are required.
