Job Description

About Scaleway

Since 1999, Scaleway has been designing secure, sustainable infrastructures aimed at supporting the most ambitious companies. Historically known for our dedicated servers (Dedibox), we made a strategic shift to cloud computing in 2015. Staying true to our principles of simplicity, flexibility, and technical excellence, we have become one of the leading players in Europe in the sector. With the rise of artificial intelligence, we have strengthened our commitment, supported by the Iliad Group, which is investing €3 billion to develop a serious, sovereign AI alternative to American and Asian giants. Every day, thanks to our fast-growing portfolio of cloud and AI products (bare metal, containerization, serverless, AI, etc.), Scaleway proudly serves thousands of customers across the private and public sector, from corporations like France Télévisions or Hachette Livre, to fast-growing startups like Photoroom and Biolevate, to institutions like the City of Copenhagen.

Our offices are located in Paris, Lille, Toulouse, Rennes, Rouen, Bordeaux and Lyon.

Why We Need You?

Our growth is driving us to strengthen our Hardware Engineering team to support the automation, reliability, and availability of our image solutions. Your mission will be to build, maintain, and validate Linux kernels and firmware in order to deliver cutting-edge infrastructure tools to internal teams and customers, ensuring our processes remain efficient, scalable, and secure.

Your Future Team

We work in a collaborative and international environment where the diversity of Scalers, combined with a spirit of sharing, helps bring new projects to life every day, advancing our ambitions together. You will be part of the Hardware Development Team. This rapidly growing group is at the heart of our infrastructure, handling R&D, qualification, prototyping, and tool development. You will work closely with internal teams (hardware, QA, software) to support production hardware quality tools and ensure the smooth operation of automated image management pipelines.

Your Daily Routine

  • Build, maintain, and debug Linux kernels, initrd/initramfs, and squashfs images
  • Validate OS and firmware (BIOS/UEFI, BMC, microcode) compatibility with hardware platforms
  • Check for vulnerabilities, test fixes, and manage firmware flashing and validation
  • Implement and manage PXE boot environments for bare-metal deployment
  • Automate image building and deployment using scripts (Bash, Python), Ansible, and CI/CD tools
  • Perform hardware bring-up and validate OS deployment on real hardware
  • Manage containerized test environments for integration testing
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support production hardware quality tools
  • Take ownership of the image lifecycle and propose solutions to improve infrastructure efficiency
  • Write and maintain documentation for firmware and OS validation processes

About You

Hard Skills
  • Strong knowledge of Linux internals (Kernel configuration, boot process, initrd/initramfs) and filesystem images
  • Experience with firmware/hardware validation (BIOS/UEFI, BMC) and hardware bring-up
  • Proficiency in deployment protocols (PXE, TFTP, DHCP) and scripting (Bash, Python)
  • Experience with automation tools (GitLab CI/CD, Ansible) and containerization (Docker)
  • 2-5 years of experience in DevOps, Platform, or System Engineering roles
Soft Skills
  • Autonomous and proactive mindset, with strong ownership of complex tasks
  • Excellent cross-team collaboration skills (hardware, QA, software teams)
  • Rigorous approach to documentation and process improvement
  • Problem-solving attitude toward hardware and software integration challenges
