Electrical Engineering Lead - Consulting Group
Sargent & Lundy, a leader in power industry engineering and consulting, seeks a detail-oriented Electrical Engineering Lead for its Consulting group. This role supports the growth in gas generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage, and utility planning/advisory sectors. You will engage directly with clients, developers, owners, lenders, and investors in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Responsibilities for Owner's Engineer Engagements
- Participate in Owner’s Engineer Engagements for utility-scale power generation projects.
- Prepare and review EPC RFP packages and technical specifications.
- Evaluate EPC proposals to aid in contractor selection.
- Provide technical support during EPC contract negotiations.
- Prepare or review specifications for key electrical equipment like main power transformers and switchgear.
- Review and provide technical commentary on EPC contractor’s electrical engineering design drawings and calculations for various project types, including:
- Simple and combined cycle electrical system design packages
- Renewable low-voltage (DC and AC) systems
- AC collection systems for solar and batteries
- Collector substation and interconnecting substation expansion
- Gen-tie transmission
AI & Automation Leadership
Lead teams in utilizing modern tools like automation and AI to solve engineering problems, improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs. Direct automation and process-improvement initiatives, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, and generating design documentation. Guide the appropriate use of AI and agentic AI tools, ensuring results are verified.
Experience with engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) for task automation is valued, though not required. Additional learning in Computer Science, AI, Software Engineering, or related fields is also valued.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering design for utility-scale power/storage projects.
- Experience in power projects as part of an EPC team or Owner’s Engineer is a plus.
- Auxiliary power system design experience, preferably in gas-fired combined cycle, is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid interpersonal skills and ability to guide others.
