Job Description

Geological Basin Research Intern at S&P Global

The Basin Research team at S&P Global is a well-established group of experts dedicated to providing high-quality basin research with geologists located at numerous offices around the globe. The successful candidate will be joining a collaborative environment where strong communication and teamwork are essential. Being part of this team means contributing to a culture of innovation and excellence, working closely with colleagues to deliver impactful research and insights.

Location: Calgary, CA (relocation assistance not available)

Internship Duration: May 18th – August 21st

Responsibilities And Impact

  • Assist in conducting geological research and analysis on the petroleum geology of Canadian sedimentary basins
  • Support data collection, compilation, and interpretation under senior geologist supervision
  • Contribute to research reports and technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with global colleagues on research projects
  • Gain exposure to industry-standard geological software (Kingdom) and analytical tools
  • Support the development of basin models and geological interpretations that inform strategic business decisions

Basic Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field
  • Strong academic performance with coursework in sedimentology, stratigraphy, or structural geology
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to remote/hybrid work arrangements

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with geological and GIS software platforms such as Kingdom, Petrel, ArcGIS, or similar mapping and modelling tools
  • Previous internship or research experience in petroleum geology, basin analysis, or related geological disciplines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Global mindset with interest in working with international teams and diverse geological settings
