Food & Wine Reporting Intern Summer 2026

The San Francisco Chronicle is seeking a reporting intern for Summer 2026. This paid 12-week internship based in the Bay Area provides hands-on experience with world-class journalists and digital news operations. Interns will cover the Bay Area’s dynamic dining and drinking scene including restaurant and bar openings, closings, and other food and drink news.

Responsibilities & Duties

The successful candidate will:

  • Receive training and mentoring from experienced editors and colleagues.
  • Work within a cohort of over a dozen summer interns.
  • Report and write news articles for the Chronicle and SFChronicle.com.
  • Engage readers with social media, visuals, graphics and multimedia.
  • Assist seasoned critics with on-the-ground reporting.

What We’re Looking For

The role demands high standards, curiosity, and empathy. It requires a candidate who hustles to get the story first and can collaborate effectively while taking and giving feedback. Strong writing skills and a commitment to accuracy, fairness and inclusiveness are essential. A portfolio or examples of previous work, along with explanations of your contributions, is required.
