About the Role: IT Manager/Tech Lead

Samsara is seeking a curious and motivated IT Manager/Tech Lead to scale our IT Services Management for a rapidly growing user base of over 4,500 employees. Your primary responsibility will be to support our People, Places, and Events, empowering employees to perform at their best. This includes coaching and developing the IT team, organizing operations, managing contracts, building vendor relationships, refining systems, managing projects, and establishing processes to deliver superior customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the IT Portfolio: Guide a team responsible for all IT projects, owning the sprint planning process across Core IT to prioritize the most important and urgent work for Samsara.
  • Manage IT Contracts: Direct the acquisition of computer software and hardware, negotiating purchase agreements and service contracts with vendors and partners. Manage the end-to-end contract lifecycle with procurement partners.
  • Manage Vendors & External Partners: Leverage experience with SaaS applications and third-party vendor relationship management, including implementation of third-party tools. Design and lead high-impact internal and external initiatives from scope to stakeholder and budget management.
  • Manage IT Service Levels: Own operational metrics, SLAs, and industry benchmarks, driving operational excellence for the department.
  • Manage Business Partner Satisfaction: Drive proactive engagement to understand satisfaction levels and address challenges with services provided.
  • Own IT Systems: Own and optimize core tools and systems powering Samsara, such as Google Workspace, Okta, Atlassian, Zendesk, and Slack.
  • Lead Software Optimization/Rationalization: Ensure Samsara optimizes its software budget investments.
  • Partner with Security and Compliance: Drive core security and compliance projects to protect information assets.
  • Lead Innovation & Automation Projects: Strategize and lead key innovation projects to continuously improve user technology experiences for Samsarians.
  • Develop Operational Data Insights & Analytics: Analyze IT activities using multiple data sources to ensure the highest levels of performance through SLAs and performance analytics.
  • Lead Technical Support: Optimize the employee support experience and drive positive technology experiences through this channel. Establish smooth hand-offs between Tier 1, 2, and 3 support and build best practices and processes.
  • Excel at Team Management: Hire, develop, and significantly scale Samsara's global IT Team.
  • Excel at Exec Communication: Clearly communicate the state and strategy for Core IT Services & Operations to executive leadership.
  • Project Management: Own the full IT project lifecycle, with budgetary and human resource management responsibilities. Ensure customer needs are met by coordinating specific IT deliverables, including program/project plans, structure, schedule, and staffing.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
  • Hire, develop, and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing team.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 8+ years in an IT services, IT program management, technical support, or systems role.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Experience with tools such as Google Workspace, Slack, Okta, Zoom, etc.
  • Experience managing technical contracts for an IT department.
  • Understanding of vendor relationship management.
  • Experience successfully managing people and projects.
  • Expertise in IT systems, networks, operations, and cloud systems.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, with a proven ability to design and communicate clear processes.
  • A detail-oriented yet flexible approach to problem-solving.
  • Impeccable discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent self-management and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive, tenacious attitude while delivering on complex and challenging projects.
  • BA / BS with a technical degree (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, MIS, etc.).
