The Product Accessibility team seeks an energetic, motivated and resourceful individual to join our growing team.
As a Senior Accessibility Engineer, you collaborate with the Product Accessibility leadership to accelerate the development of accessible products and services across the enterprise. You are passionate about accessibility and are excited about the opportunity to transform the way Salesforce products are built. You solve problems, gravitate towards collaboration, and strive for quality.
As an accessibility subject matter expert, you are looked to as an expert, mentor, and evangelist for creating accessible and inclusive products. You educate and train product teams on specific accessibility requirements and the use of tools that teams can use to incorporate accessibility early in the software development lifecycle. You work closely with designers, developers and product management to enhance existing accessibility features and help create new ways to make products more accessible and usable by people with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Partner with product management, designers, developers and inclusive design to deliver accessible products and features by providing expertise and establishing best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Function as a subject matter expert on accessibility, staying ahead of trends in disability advocacy, universal and inclusive design, and web standards.
- Participate on large-scale projects or initiatives researching, documenting, prototyping and promoting best practices for usability and accessibility.
- Collaborate with designers to review designs ensuring that accessibility is baked into the product before development starts.
- Assist developers in addressing accessibility challenges by delivering specifications and providing functional prototypes of solutions so they can meet web accessibility standards in their deliverables.
- Work with product teams to provide manual and automated reviews, diagnose issues and recommend solutions.
- Educate teams to leverage automated testing, interpret test failures, identify false positives and provide support for recommended fixes.
- Partner with the accessibility automation engineering team to increase validation rulesets, pilot and evaluate new testing frameworks and conduct training as needed.
- Partner with the Product Accessibility Enablement team to propose, create and deliver content for building accessible and inclusive products.
- Work with product teams to ensure products are regularly audited and results are resolved, including reviewing audit findings, helping to prioritize fixes and identifying enablement gaps.
- Facilitate and encourage collaboration and transparency across disciplines, geographies, and company departments.
- Provide ad hoc accessibility support and guidance to designers and engineers.
Minimum Requirements
- 6+ years experience as a Senior Digital Accessibility Engineer.
Qualifications
Commensurate level of knowledge and experience with the following:
- 6+ years working as a digital accessibility engineer.
- Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines and specifications.
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- HTML, CSS, JavaScript and ARIA.
- Design pattern and component libraries.
- Assistive technology and accessibility-related software, including JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and ZoomText.
- Automated accessibility tools (e.g. Axe) and experience interpreting results, drafting test rules, piloting new test automation frameworks, recommending fixes and training teams to use automation tools.
- Advanced soft skills and mastery of working with teams who may not have any understanding of inclusive design or accessibility.
- Ability to collaborate productively both independently and with diverse global teams.
- Proven organizational and multitasking skills.
