About the role
Forensic Mechanical Engineer, P.E.
Haag, a Salas O'Brien company and a leader in forensic engineering and consulting since 1924, is seeking an experienced Forensic Mechanical Engineer. This role is based remotely from your home office and located in any major US city. You will investigate and evaluate the root cause and extent of failures and damage to HVAC and MEP systems, building management systems (BMS), building automation systems (BAS), fire protection and fire alarm systems, and will assess various other types of mechanical failures.
Qualifications
- Must be a licensed P.E. in your state of residence. Additional active licensures in surrounding states are highly desirable.
- 5-10 years of on-the-job experience designing/working with mechanical equipment and systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings, including HVAC and MEP systems is required.
- At least 5 years of forensic engineering experience is strongly preferred.
- Must be willing and able to perform physical requirements, including working in confined spaces, roofs, and industrial settings. Carrying ladders and operating equipment are essential functions.
- Ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally as needed.
- Must be able to work independently and with a cross-functional team of experts.
- Strong technical writing skills and the ability to write effective reports are required.
- Strong verbal skills and effective face-to-face communication are necessary.
- Ability to provide the utmost in customer service to clients is a must.
- Technical proficiency with computers, phones, cameras, and industry-related software applications is necessary.
- Expert witness experience is expected.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Education
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university is required. A Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering is highly desirable.
- CFI (IAAI) and/or CFEI (NAFI) certification(s) are strongly preferred.
The total compensation for this position could be $235,000 per year or more, with a base salary up to $180,000 and variable compensation up to $55,000.
