About the role
Staff AWS Platform Engineer
The Platform Engineering capability at RWS is responsible for building and operating the cloud foundations, tooling, and shared platform services that power our next generation of products and applications.
As an Staff AWS Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and implementing the AWS-based platform foundations that allow engineering teams to build and operate software quickly, safely, and at scale. A major focus of this role is supporting the modernisation of application workloads, ensuring after migration to AWS they can be brought in line to leverage consistent platform patterns aligned with the RWS platform reference architecture.
You will work closely with engineering teams across RWS to help them adopt modern cloud-native practices, enabling a shift toward self-service infrastructure, automated deployments, and resilient cloud platforms. This role sits within the Developer & Production Enablement organisation, contributing to the development of the company’s internal platform engineering capability.

Key Responsibilities
Cloud Platform Foundations
- Design and implement the AWS platform foundations used by product and service teams across RWS.
- Develop reusable infrastructure patterns aligned with the RWS platform reference architecture.
- Implement core cloud capabilities including networking, identity integration, security controls, and platform services.
- Support the creation of standardised infrastructure building blocks to accelerate application deployment.
On-Premise to Cloud Migration Enablement
- Support engineering and IT teams with guidance as migration of application workloads from on-premise environments into AWS is completed.
- Build and implement prioritised plan for migrated applications: aligned with our RWS platform patterns that ensure secure, scalable, and consistent workloads.
- Collaborate with application teams to modernise architectures where appropriate.
- Provide guidance and tooling to help teams successfully adopt AWS infrastructure and services.
Platform Infrastructure as Code
- Build and maintain infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code to ensure consistent, repeatable cloud deployments.
- Develop reusable Terraform modules and platform templates that product teams can consume.
- Improve automation around infrastructure provisioning and environment setup.
- Contribute to the evolution of the RWS cloud platform reference architecture.
Developer Self-Service Platform Capabilities
- Enable product teams to provision infrastructure and deploy services through self-service platform capabilities.
- Integrate cloud infrastructure with CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows.
- Support the development of platform automation that reduces operational overhead for engineering teams.
- Work with developer productivity teams to ensure platform capabilities integrate smoothly with engineering workflows.
Skills & Experience
Cloud & Platform Engineering
- Strong experience with a software engineering language, and building and operating infrastructure on AWS.
- Deep understanding of modern cloud architectures and platform engineering principles.
- Experience designing scalable infrastructure to support application platforms.
Infrastructure & Automation
- Experience working with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Familiarity with CI/CD systems and automated infrastructure deployment.

- Experience supporting or leading migrations from on-premise infrastructure to cloud platforms.
