The Opportunity: Retail Pharmacist, Oak Park Pharmacy
As a Retail Pharmacist at Oak Park Pharmacy, you will be responsible for assuring the effective and efficient provision of pharmaceutical care services. This role involves performing all duties necessary to ensure the coordinated, safe, and rational delivery of pharmacy services and programs, including the accurate preparation and dispensing of prescription medications and compounded preparations within a community pharmacy setting. You will also oversee the activities of pharmacy residents, students, and supportive personnel as assigned, reporting directly to the immediate supervisor of the assigned practice area. The successful candidate will exemplify the Rush mission, vision, and values and act in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervise on-duty pharmacy staff.
- Evaluate physicians’ orders for therapeutic appropriateness, proper dosing, drug interactions, allergies, route of administration, contraindications, and therapeutic redundancies.
- Verify orders promptly and clarify as needed with prescribers.
- Manage workflow including order entry, prescription dispensing, compounding, verification, counseling, register transactions, and inventory.
- Oversee and perform medication compounding.
- Provide general and patient-specific drug information to healthcare professionals, recommending cost-effective alternatives.
- Conduct prescription and over-the-counter patient consultations to promote safe medication use and optimal patient outcomes.
- Complete daily operational and financial reporting.
- Provide clear handoff communications to the next provider of care.
- Participate in the medication error reporting program to identify, document, and prevent errors.
- Identify medication safety issues and escalate system improvement suggestions.
- Review pharmacy communications for policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Attend and participate in required staff meetings.
- Provide general supervision for technical support and coordinate workflow.
- Maintain clinical skills, knowledge, and professional competence.
- Ensure compliance with all related rules and regulations.
- Perform other assigned tasks or special projects.
Required Job Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy and/or PharmD.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in Illinois.
- Effective verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Strong work ethic with demonstrated leadership activities or potential.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.
- Commitment to supporting Pharmacy Department goals and objectives, comfortable with change.
- Demonstrated leadership in expected responsibilities.
- Current in professional and clinical literature.
- Competent in unique aspects of drug therapy for patient care.
- Thorough understanding of clinical monitoring activities.
- Ability to use standard texts and online drug information resources.
- Effective and respectful communication with patients, pharmacists, nurses, and physicians.
- Professional representation of the Department of Pharmacy.
- Working knowledge of medical center and departmental policies/procedures.
- Participation in educational seminars and required inservice programs.
- Completion of age/disease state specific and annual competencies.
- Assistance in training new employees, residents, and students.
- Precept pharmacy students, consistent with academic credentials and experience.
- Responsibility for personal and professional growth.
- Active Illinois licensing status.
- Encouraged to pursue board certification (BPS).
- Ensures compliance with accreditation standards and regulations.

- Responds to the department’s Disaster Plan.
- Reviews policies and procedures as requested.
