About the Role
Runway is seeking a technically strong and intellectually curious Technical Accounting Manager to serve as our in-house expert on complex accounting matters. This role has high visibility, designed for a professional who excels at interpreting accounting guidance, forming well-reasoned positions, and translating technical conclusions into sound, executable accounting practice. This role is open to hiring remotely across North America; we also have offices in NYC, San Francisco, and Seattle.
What You’ll Do
- Lead revenue recognition end-to-end, including reviewing contracts, identifying performance obligations, standalone selling price, evaluating non-standard deal structures, and maintaining ASC 606 policies as our business evolves.
- Advise Sales, Legal, and Deal Desk on the accounting implications of new and non-standard arrangements, including guidance on contract structure and go-to-market strategy.
- Implement technical recommendations to accounting operations and support execution across general ledger needs.
- Research and document accounting positions on complex or non-routine transactions, producing clear, audit-ready technical memos.
- Track emerging FASB standards, assess their impact, and drive adoption efforts; apply technical judgment across areas such as ASC 842, ASC 718, and ASC 350-40 as they arise.
- Own financial statement technical disclosures and support quarterly and annual reporting.
- Serve as a key contact for external auditors, including preparing well-organized support and responding to technical inquiries.
- Work directly with the accounting team to embed technical conclusions into close processes and day-to-day execution.
What You’ll Need
- CPA with 5–8 years of experience; Big 4 background strongly preferred.
- Deep expertise in ASC 606, including multi-element SaaS and services arrangements.
- Proven ability to research guidance independently, take a position, and write clear, well-supported memos.
- Strong communicator who can make complex accounting accessible to non-accounting stakeholders.
- Prior experience in a high-growth software company preferred.
- Willingness to support all aspects of accounting as needs arise.
