Role Summary
The Controller will be a key leader in the Finance department, responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and maintaining robust internal controls. This role requires a strong technical accountant with experience in fast-paced environments, ideally within e-commerce, manufacturing, or healthcare/pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & General Ledger
- Direct all general accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Manage the timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Prepare and publish monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring appropriate documentation and audit trails.
Cost & Inventory Accounting
- Oversee inventory valuation ensuring accurate costing for materials.
- Analyze and report on cost of goods sold (COGS), variances, and profitability by product line and channel.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Manage all compliance reporting, including federal, state, and local tax filings (e.g., sales tax, property tax), working closely with external advisors.
- Coordinate and manage external financial audits, serving as the primary point of contact for auditors.
Financial Planning & Analysis Support
- Collaborate with the CFO and leadership team on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Provide detailed variance analysis of actual results versus budget/forecast.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings and process improvement.
Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance, accuracy, and continuous process improvement.
- Manage relationships with external financial partners, including banking, insurance, and audit firms.
Required Qualifications
- Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in a Controller or Senior Accounting Manager role.
- Proven technical expertise in U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Demonstrable experience with inventory, manufacturing, or cost accounting in a product-based environment.
- Expert-level proficiency in accounting software (ERP systems) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) E-commerce industries.
- Prior experience managing accounting in a multi-state operation.
