General Purpose of the Senior Manager, IT DevOps Role
The Senior Manager, IT DevOps provides essential hands-on technical leadership, strategic guidance, and operational support throughout the entire software delivery lifecycle. This critical role encompasses the oversight of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, system reliability, and deployment processes. The Senior Manager will spearhead initiatives to guarantee the establishment of scalable, secure, and high-performing environments, concurrently cultivating a strong culture of collaboration between development and operations teams. This position will serve as a direct interface with key business units and other IT groups to ensure that DevOps practices are consistently aligned with the broader organizational goals.
Essential Functions
- Provide hands-on technical engineering management for custom infrastructure development utilizing modern technologies such as GitHub, Jenkins, Bitbucket, and JIRA.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and practical experience with modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, robust monitoring, and automation.
- Possess experience with DevSecOps processes, including advanced monitoring solutions.
- Manage, mentor, and coach a dedicated team of DevOps engineers, ensuring adherence to engineering and security practices.
- Deliver regular and constructive performance feedback to individual team members.
- Manage vendor relationships, including contract negotiations and renewals, within the DevOps domain as required.
- Utilize Agile/Iterative development methodologies to deliver high-quality, flexible, and adaptable solutions.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external IT teams to resolve issues, improve IT processes and procedures, and provide actionable recommendations.
- Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement to drive greater efficiencies within Ross Stores.
- Diagnose and proactively resolve systemic obstacles that hinder the team's ability to deliver high-quality software.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required
- A minimum of 10 to 15 years of IT experience, preferably within a Fortune 500 or comparable IT environment.
- At least 5 years of experience managing a team of DevOps engineers, including coordinating with offshore teams through third-party partners.
- Strong technical background coupled with hands-on expertise in DevOps and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).
- A solid understanding of DevOps best practices.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD and ALM tools like GitHub, Jenkins, Bitbucket, and JIRA.
- Proficiency in DevOps architecture and design patterns.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated history of successfully engaging internal customers, including active listening, influencing decisions, translating complex technical details into understandable concepts, and building consensus.
- An undergraduate degree in information systems, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
