Overview

The Business Data Analyst reports into the Director, Research and Analytics at Rocky Mountaineer. This role is a key point of contact for business support analytics, with a primary focus on assisting with business data analysis and internal reporting. The position aims to identify opportunities to enhance guest experiences and support travel partners through data-driven decision making.

Key Areas of Accountability

Data Analysis

  • Gathering requirements from various stakeholders and developing analytical solutions.
  • Collaborating with Data Engineers and Research Analysts on analytical product development.
  • Analyzing large data sets to identify trends and customer patterns.
  • Applying statistical and business analysis to manage complex data.
  • Improving data accuracy and operational database efficiency.
  • Crafting compelling data stories, presentations, and interactive dashboards.
  • Ensuring consistency and adherence to privacy policies in internal reporting.

Business Support

  • Liaising cross-departmentally to convert business requirements into actionable reporting.
  • Driving reporting automation to liberate capacity for detailed analysis.
  • Educating stakeholders on the benefits of analytics solutions.
  • Supporting the usage and adoption of analytical products.
  • Owning the delivery of individual products developed by the analytics team.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Business Analytics, Operations Research, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics.

Experience: Minimum of 2+ years in an analytical and reporting capacity, preferably within hospitality or tourism. Fluency in SQL and relational databases. Experience with business intelligence visualization tools, particularly Power BI.

Skills: Self-motivated, curious, and proactive with strong critical thinking. Ability to create engaging data storytelling with numbers and visuals. Excellent independent working skills with an ability to manage competing priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Power BI, Power Automate, SSRS, and/or Python is an asset.

Work Environment & Compensation

This is a hybrid role based out of the Vancouver Corporate Office, requiring a minimum of 3 days in the office per week. The base salary ranges from $67,000 to $84,000, with eligibility for a discretionary bonus program and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and more. Employees also receive up to 5% RRSP/TSFA match and two complimentary annual train tickets after the first year.
