Job Summary

Rockwell Automation is seeking a Technical Leader to spearhead our Platform Automation and Developer Experience practice. As a global technology leader, Rockwell Automation builds diverse hardware, software, and services solutions for high-demand manufacturing customers. This role focuses on improving the Developer Experience through Platform Automation by partnering with multiple Development teams on the long-term architecture, provisioning, monitoring, and enrichment of Development Environments. We are looking for an individual with expertise in modern software platforms, productizing platform components, resolving production issues in the SDLC, and enabling Development teams to autonomously consume platform-level components. You will lead the creation of a democratized, self-service library of reusable platform components, treating each as a product with an automated lifecycle. This is a hands-on position requiring technical acumen and the ability to foster trust and cooperation with other technical teams. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, IT, and work a hybrid schedule in Pune-Hinjewadi, India.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and build a team focused on enhancing the developer experience at Rockwell through automation of technology and compute platform components in lower and production environments.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to improve developer experience across the organization, including infrastructure services that support remote work.
  • Ensure stream/product-aligned teams operate with substantial autonomy.
  • Lead the creation and adoption of a shared service for CI/CD pipeline platform components to streamline development workflows and automate the provisioning of lower environments.
  • Partner with Rockwell's Development teams to build a shared, self-service library of platform components.
  • Collaborate with Development, Security, and Infrastructure teams on the creation and operational support of lower environments that enhance developer experience while maintaining IP security.
  • Champion complete build and production support automation, fostering a culture of automation at the Platform layers.
  • Build observability into build chains, CI/CD pipelines, and automations across all environments.
  • Collaborate with Build/DevOps/SRE Engineers on the creation and operational support of CI/CD pipelines and templates.
  • Productize and maintain a library of versioned Platform components and orchestration scripts.
  • Create or standardize test cases within CI/CD pipelines for Platform Component usage, Operational Readiness, Architectural Understanding, and UX for the IDP.
  • Establish metrics and monitor Platform products to gauge developer satisfaction and productivity.
  • Stay current with the latest trends in developer tools, platforms, and methodologies.
  • Advocate for and implement developer-friendly practices.

The Essentials - You Will Have

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, MIS, Computer Science, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 8 years' experience leading systems or platform development teams.
  • Proven track record in modern software architectures, required underlying platforms, and their management.
  • 4 years' experience leading DevSecOps teams and supporting CI/CD pipelines to drive operational excellence and adaptability in the SDLC.
  • Experience with Continuous Delivery practices and Agile/SAFe in a large organization.
  • Ability to lead diverse groups of peers toward a common solution framework.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have

  • Strong skills in creating Technical Roadmaps and organizing development team work using Scrum/Agile principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in improving developer experience.
  • Deep understanding of successful platform components, including their architecture, durability, provisioning, monitoring, and lifecycle.
  • A systems thinking approach to identify all working parts and chart a path to a solution.
  • Experience with innovation in platform automation and IDPs, integrating network, system, storage, databases, and meshes into consumable products.

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive mindfulness programs with a premium membership to Calm.
  • Volunteer Paid Time off available after 6 months of employment.
  • Company volunteer and donation matching program.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
