Overview

The DRUGSCAN Laboratory Internship at Rochester Regional Health is designed for students enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field. The role is based in Horsham, PA and involves accessioning, lab assistant functions, and developing hands-on laboratory skills.

Responsibilities

  • Unpack, sort, and verify incoming specimens from couriers and law enforcement agencies.
  • Label, aliquot, and deliver samples to the testing area while maintaining chain-of-custody.
  • Enter orders and specimen demographic data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Determine specimen suitability and resolve problematic specimens as per procedures.
  • Maintain a stocked, organized, and clean workstation.
  • Perform data entry of specimen information and other lab assistant duties.
  • Prepare workstations with supplies, label vessels, and handle sample aliquoting.
  • Track inventory for reagents and consumables.
  • Maintain and perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment and workspace.
  • Manage document filing and assist in preparing boxes for offsite storage.
  • Participate in training, shadowing, and development opportunities.
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures, safety rules, and regulatory guidelines.

Physical Requirements

The role is classified as sedentary work which may involve occasional walking or standing with the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force.
