About the Team and Role
The Technical Accounting team is dedicated to providing critical insights and expert guidance on applying Robinhood’s accounting policies within a dynamic environment. This team collaborates closely with cross-functional groups like Product, Legal, Finance, and Tax, ensuring robust compliance with relevant accounting standards.
As a Technical Accounting Manager, you will serve as a subject matter expert in technical accounting and financial reporting. Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining Robinhood’s accounting policies, leading technical assessments for new products and transactions, and overseeing the implementation of new accounting pronouncements. This role offers an exciting chance to make a significant contribution in a highly collaborative and fast-paced setting.
This hybrid role requires in-person attendance at least 3 days per week in our Chicago, IL, Menlo Park, CA, or New York, NY offices. Robinhood values in-person work for its ability to accelerate progress, foster innovation, and strengthen team community.
What You’ll Do
- Establish, develop, and maintain Robinhood’s accounting policies.
- Identify, analyze, and apply technical accounting guidance from FASB, SEC, and Big 4 firms.
- Document technical accounting positions comprehensively in memo format.
- Monitor, assess, and implement new accounting pronouncements, proactively partnering with stakeholders.
- Perform business combination accounting for acquisitions, coordinating third-party valuation specialists.
- Apply revenue from contracts with customer guidance to new products, assessing principal vs. agent.
- Serve as a trusted business partner to Finance, Product, Legal, and Tax teams.
- Act as a proactive liaison with external auditors to ensure timely closure of technical accounting matters.
What You Bring
- 7+ years of progressive experience in a technical accounting role.
- Public accounting experience, with Big 4 or national firm experience preferred.
- Proven experience in designing, implementing, and documenting technical accounting policies and procedures.
- Excellent knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including research, position establishment, and implementation.
- Ability to interpret complex technical guidance and effectively communicate accounting positions.
