About the Role
RMS Energy Co, LLC is seeking experienced Protection and Control Field Technicians and Engineers for high-voltage infrastructure projects across the U.S. In this hands-on role, you will test, troubleshoot, and commission protection and control relays, pilot channel systems, and substation equipment in commercial, industrial, and utility environments.
What You’ll Do
- Test various protection and control relays including electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor types.
- Troubleshoot and repair substation relaying and control equipment in field environments.
- Commission new substations and related systems such as pilot wire, power line carrier, fiber optics, and communication/control systems.
- Schedule and complete test activities accurately without causing service interruptions.
- Support field service personnel and maintain proper documentation aligned with client specifications.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings and wiring schematics.
- Follow strict safety and PPE protocols in challenging work environments.
The Experience We’re Looking For
- 5+ years in relay testing, commissioning, and substation equipment repair.
- 5+ years leading project execution or system integration.
- Familiarity with SCADA, SER, fault data, and automation systems.
- Proficiency using test equipment, software tools, and wiring techniques.
- Strong organizational skills with proven multitasking ability.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel 50% or more, including overnight stays and weekends/holidays.
- High school diploma or GED with a valid driver’s license and clean record.
- Ability to work in varied weather conditions, at heights and in confined spaces.
- Must pass background checks and drug/alcohol screening.
Bonus Points For
- Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in electrical technology, Power Systems, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience with relay testing software, fault analysis, or advanced P&C diagnostic tools.
- Prior work with utilities, substations, or complex P&C systems.
- Experience mentoring or leading field teams.
