Role Summary

The Lead Product Designer, Vehicle and Device Experience will champion user experience across Rivian’s future-forward vehicle interfaces. Working onsite at our Palo Alto Design HQ, you will collaboration with design, engineering, and hardware teams to translate abstract experience goals into concrete technical and component requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and architecture of UX frameworks for integrated automotive hardware features.
  • Translate user experience goals into actionable hardware and software requirements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers for hardware product development.
  • Own prototyping and iterative UX development using tools like Figma and ProtoPie.
  • Develop and document information hierarchies for digital/physical interfaces.
  • Benchmark industry UI/UX standards and present experience maps to leadership.
  • Mentor designers and engineers in crafting component specifications and bridging digital/hardware development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Interaction Design, Human Factors, Product Design, Electronics Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 7+ years experience delivering end-to-end UX for hardware products or automotive HMI.
  • Strong portfolio highlighting UX solutions for physical controls and integrated hardware/software interfaces.
  • Proficiency in prototyping tools (Figma, ProtoPie) and hardware prototyping environments.
  • Ability to synthesize user research and technical constraints into component-level specifications.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Pay Disclosure & Benefits

For Palo Alto-based applicants, the salary range is $167,400 to $209,300. Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental, and vision insurance packages for employees and their families.
