A Day in the Life as a Yard Attendant

  • Responsible for vehicle check-in, accurately recording and filing information for vehicles assigned to the facility.
  • Thoroughly clean and detail vehicles to enhance their appearance and maximize their value at auction, with comprehensive training provided.
  • Safely operate passenger vehicles, maneuvering them within the facility and participating in drive-through auctions.
  • Retrieve keys, license plates, and other essential items from vehicles, storing them in designated secure locations.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to visitors, directing them to the appropriate personnel for further help.
  • Receive on-the-job training and development in operating forklifts and loaders, expanding your skill set.

What We're Looking For (Qualifications)

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. This position has physical demands, requiring the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and handle various lifting tasks. An upbeat demeanor and positive customer interaction skills are essential. A basic understanding of cars or general mechanical knowledge is highly beneficial, as is a strong commitment to teamwork.

While not required, candidates with basic automotive repair skills or experience in the rental or construction industries often find this role to be an excellent fit. Experience in equipment rental, construction, or a related field is preferred.

Physical Demand Highlights & Working Conditions

This role involves primarily outdoor work across all weather types. You must be alert to potential hazards from heavy equipment and other vehicles. Key physical abilities include:

  • Applying security, maintenance, and safety procedures to protect assets.
  • Using personal protective equipment (safety gloves, safety glasses).
  • Recognizing and responding to unsafe situations to prevent accidents.
  • Following regulations for handling hazardous materials.
  • Constantly lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling over 100 lbs.
  • Constantly reaching, handling, fingering objects, standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Frequently bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, turning, climbing, and crawling.
