As a Principal UX Writer - Riftbound, you will be instrumental in shaping the player experience across one of Riot Games' titles, Riftbound. Your core responsibility is to design understanding, working collaboratively with designers, producers, and narrative partners to ensure all in-game text, tutorials, UI elements, and even packaging feel intuitive, purposeful, and fully integrated into the world of League of Legends. This senior role demands a blend of strategic systems thinking and hands-on craft, where you will define content standards, build robust editorial systems, and influence game design through clarity, usability, and a consistent tone.

You'll help the Riftbound team scale processes, strengthen the game's voice, and establish sustainable methods to maintain coherence as the world of Riftbound expands. Applying advanced UX writing and content design principles, you'll transform complex game mechanics into accessible and engaging player experiences. Your work will fundamentally set the communication tone and teaching methodology for Riftbound. This is a highly self-directed, hands-on position; you will manage your own writing pipeline, estimate timelines, track revisions, and coordinate closely with producers to align with release schedules. While you won't manage people, you will meticulously manage the content process, ensuring high clarity and quality standards for players.

Responsibilities

• Write and meticulously edit all player-facing text, encompassing card names, abilities, tutorials, and in-game UI.
• Collaborate intimately with designers to ensure text powerfully supports gameplay intent and is easily graspable by players, balancing clarity with rich worldbuilding flavor.
• Define and maintain Riftbound’s editorial systems, including terminology rules, templates, and voice guidelines, establishing a framework for consistent and accessible communication across all partners, from designers to localization.
• Partner strategically with designers to simplify intricate mechanics or adjust copy whenever complexity risks confusing players.
• Engage cross-functionally with design, production, and localization partners, integrating language considerations early into the development process.
• Actively participate in playtests, meticulously review user flows, and provide invaluable language insights to enhance product intuitiveness.
• Build scalable content systems, establishing clear processes for reviewing, documenting, and evolving game text to ensure Riftbound’s world remains cohesive, clear, and future-proof.
• Manage the entire content pipeline, effectively scoping writing tasks, aligning with production timelines, and prioritizing key milestones.
• Brief, edit, and integrate work from external writers to maintain a unified tone and clarity.
• Adapt swiftly to evolving cards or new features, crafting smart, concise language solutions under tight deadlines without compromising quality.
• Champion UX writing best practices, fostering close collaboration with design partners, and advocating for player-first communication across the Riftbound team, emphasizing writing as a core design element, not mere decoration.

Required Qualifications

• 6–10+ years of professional experience in UX writing or editorial roles, ideally with a background in systems-based content like games, apps, or other interactive products.
• Proven experience in owning end-to-end content pipelines, from guideline creation to final launch.
• Demonstrated experience in designing comprehensive content systems.
• Direct experience working on TCGs (Trading Card Games) or equivalent game development genres.
