Department: Quality Engineering
Reports to: Managing Director UK and collaborating with UK Regional Business Managers
About the Role
The Senior Test Automation Architect (SDET) role involves designing and driving best-in-class Quality Engineering testing solutions across diverse UK customer environments. You will shape automation frameworks, define technical standards, and ensure high-quality software delivery across UK and offshore teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Oversee Test Automation & Quality Engineering projects; design frameworks for web, mobile, API, and backend systems; define architecture standards and reusable test components; evaluate tools like Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, and Appium; and ensure CI/CD and DevOps alignment.
- Strategic Oversight: Lead proof-of-concepts, tool assessments, and automation strategy workshops; promote Shift Left testing; and establish KPIs, test coverage, and defect trend tracking.
- Collaboration & Mentoring: Work with UK and offshore teams, guide Quality Engineers, and partner with key stakeholders to tailor automation frameworks.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years experience in test automation.
- 5+ years in a senior SDET or test architect role.
- Expertise in Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Appium, TestNG, and JUnit.
- Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab, and Azure DevOps.
- Strong programming skills in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python.
- Understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Familiarity with AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Excellent communication skills and agile delivery experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
- ISTQB Test Automation Engineer or equivalent certification.
- Experience in client-facing roles or consulting environments.
