About the Opportunity
The Technical Services Engineer, Shift 2 is responsible for resolving complex technical issues within the database ecosystem, supporting large clients by addressing questions about architecture, performance, recovery, and security. This role serves as a critical resource for best practices in operating large-scale databases and advocates for customer needs with product and development teams. The position involves mentoring peers and contributing to internal projects that enhance diagnostic and support tools.
Responsibilities
- Advise clients on complex technical issues within the database ecosystem
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to architecture, performance, recovery, and security
- Serve as an expert resource in large-scale database operations
- Advocate for customer needs with product management and development teams
- Contribute to internal software development projects for support tools
- Mentor and train new team members
- Build knowledge on new product lines within the database ecosystem
- Provide weekend coverage on a second shift schedule (12pm–9pm PST)
Requirements
- Experience in systems engineering, including Linux performance, memory, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clustering, and troubleshooting
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols such as DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS
- Experience in storage engineering, including NAS, SAN, SSD, multipath, and caching
- Experience building and maintaining complex, mission-critical production database systems
- Ability to read code and basic coding/scripting skills in one or more languages such as Java, Python, Ruby, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Node.js, or Go
- Broad knowledge of customer workloads, including performance, availability, and scalability
- Ability to analyze problems across application, database, and storage layers
- Strong problem-solving skills, composure under pressure, and real-time issue resolution
- Willingness and ability to collaborate and seek help appropriately
- U.S. citizenship and work on U.S. soil due to security requirements

- Experience managing large-scale databases (RDBMS, NoSQL)
