About the Opportunity

The Staff, Software Engineer leads the strategy and technical design of major software projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality applications that meet performance expectations. This role is central to defining project plans, overseeing development and implementation, and guiding technical decisions. It involves mentoring junior developers and collaborating across distributed teams to align technical solutions with organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy development and technical design for large software projects.
  • Define timelines, project plans, and evaluate project feasibility, cost, and compatibility.
  • Ensure application performance meets required standards.
  • Manage vendor selection, negotiation, and evaluation of technical approaches.
  • Oversee coding, testing, implementation, and documentation of software solutions.
  • Perform complex programming tasks including debugging, maintenance, and modifications.
  • Monitor and improve operating efficiency of existing application systems.
  • Resolve customer inquiries and serve as a technical expert.
  • Mentor and delegate tasks to junior developers.
  • Design complex systems with multiple interfaces and platforms.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies to guide future business strategies.
  • Incorporate external technical knowledge into organizational IT work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with Java Enterprise and Java application servers such as WebSphere, WebLogic, or JBOSS.
  • Experience with relational databases including Oracle, DB2, or SQL Server.
  • Knowledge of web services and messaging layers using SOAP, REST, JAXB, and JMS.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture and service-oriented architecture.
  • Expertise in enterprise systems technologies including Java/J2EE, Spring, Hibernate, EMS, Kafka, JBoss, RDBMS, Cloud/Microservices, caching, secure development lifecycle, and distributed processing.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), DevOps processes and tools, and containerization.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure and services such as Google Cloud Platform or equivalents like Bluemix, Cloud Foundry, Azure, AWS.
  • Experience collaborating with distributed and international teams on IT projects.
  • Ability to review business requirements and propose technical implementation roadmaps.
