The Staff Software Engineer role is integral to advancing a key product from pilot to general availability, focusing on a data visualization platform that aids political data exploration. The position involves establishing engineering standards, enhancing system reliability and security, and contributing technical expertise across multiple projects. This role drives the development of scalable, maintainable software solutions that directly support the organization's mission to improve civic engagement.Responsibilities
- Guide the technical evolution of the Explorer product, advising on priorities and architectural decisions.
- Transition the Explorer platform from pilot to general availability by ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Develop and refine backend services, interactive visualizations, and user interfaces.
- Produce high-quality documentation to support knowledge sharing and maintainability.
- Implement robust testing strategies and address technical risks proactively.
- Mentor senior engineers and foster inclusive, high-performing teams.
- Reduce technical debt and improve system quality across projects.

- Extensive experience as an individual contributor in software engineering.
- Ability to work in near-greenfield environments with shifting product priorities.
