Job Description
About the Opportunity
A growth-stage, NYC-headquartered FinTech organization is focused on improving the rent payment experience by enabling users to pay rent throughout the month on a flexible schedule. The mission is to empower renters with flexibility over their most significant recurring expense. The Software Engineer I, Fullstack, Risk Engineering will join the Risk Engineering team to develop services and APIs supporting risk decisioning, fraud prevention, and credit access systems.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs in Java (Spring Boot) for real-time risk decisioning and fraud prevention.
- Develop user-facing features using TypeScript with React and/or React Native for risk-related flows on web and mobile.
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering partners to deliver features from requirements to production.
- Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code; participate in code reviews and learn best practices.
- Monitor, debug, and support production systems, gaining experience with distributed systems and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong knowledge of Java and object-oriented programming principles.
- Experience with React or React Native and proficiency in TypeScript.
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and basic system design concepts.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and service-oriented architectures.
- Experience with relational databases and SQL queries.
- Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Curiosity and desire to learn about system operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to risk engineering, fraud detection, or decision platforms.
- Experience building mobile and web UIs to product and design specifications.
- Knowledge of React Native and React ecosystems, including Hooks, Components, Context, and Redux.
- Experience with Spring Boot or backend service development.
- Basic knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions.
- Exposure to observability and monitoring tools like DataDog.
- Experience or coursework with data platforms such as Snowflake.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like CDK or Terraform.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Compensation
- For NY/NJ/CA locations, base salary range is $139,000 to $153,000.
- For all other states, base salary range is $125,000 to $138,000.
