About the Opportunity:
The Software Engineer will play a crucial role in advancing the organization's software modernization efforts by designing and building scalable data pipelines and cloud-native services. This position is responsible for end-to-end project delivery, advocating for best practices in database usage and system architecture, and collaborating with engineering teams and stakeholders to create secure, efficient, and compliant software solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Design, build, and maintain complex ETL/ELT workflows
- Implement security protocols including authentication and authorization
- Optimize data transformations using cloud-native tools
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance, maintaining metadata and lineage
- Modernize legacy on-premises systems into distributed, cloud-based services
- Contribute to authentication, identity management, and access control frameworks
- Participate in architectural discussions, code reviews, and technical improvements
- Promote best practices in microservice design, testing, observability, and CI/CD automation
- Work with partner engineers and stakeholders to develop mission-critical solutions
- Collaborate with product teams to identify improvements and growth opportunities
- Operate effectively in an asynchronous, remote environment
- Engage in communities of practice via Slack and Github Issues
- Integrate software products with defense systems ensuring interoperability and security compliance
- Own architectural decisions and maintain technical quality across the engineering team
- Develop documentation including design specifications and maintenance guides
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry trends
- Provide technical mentorship and elevate engineering standards
- Communicate effectively with diverse engineering teams and stakeholders
- Influence product direction through understanding of user needs and system constraints
Requirements:
- U.S. citizenship required
- 3+ years (mid) or 5+ years (senior) software engineering experience
- Experience building software tools focused on software lifecycle and management
- Proficient in at least one modern programming language (Go, TypeScript, Python)
- Strong knowledge of system design, API development, workflow orchestration (Argo Workflows preferred), relational databases, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
- Expertise in database design, schema, indexing, and query optimization
- Experience decomposing monolithic applications into microservices with lightweight APIs
- Modern API design skills beyond basic CRUD, familiarity with frameworks like FastAPI or ASP.NET
- Experience implementing authorization, data governance, security telemetry, policy enforcement, and role-based access control
- Familiarity with core Kubernetes concepts including Controllers, Operators, and CRDs
- Experience or knowledge of Department of Defense acquisition or software modernization projects
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail
- Ability to manage time effectively in a remote work environment
Pay Range and Compensation Package:
- Remote - USA $123,250—$166,750 USD
