About the role
About Our Client
The organization operates in the healthcare intelligence sector, supporting over 85 health plans and serving more than 270 million lives. It addresses challenges in payment integrity and audit within healthcare by deploying AI-powered systems that process hundreds of millions of documents and validate millions of claims annually. This program optimizes financial outcomes and helps reduce healthcare costs at scale.About the Opportunity
The Software Architect will lead the design and implementation of an intelligent document processing and agentic evaluation framework. This hands-on senior technical leadership role sets the architectural direction for how the platform ingests, interprets, and reasons over complex healthcare documents at scale. The position involves designing APIs, abstractions, and frameworks that enable agentic case analysis, collaborating closely with engineering teams to build scalable, reliable systems.Responsibilities
- Own the architecture of the intelligent document processing platform and agentic evaluation framework, from API design to implementation.
- Design abstractions and interfaces for agentic workflows processing medical records, claims data, and unstructured healthcare documents.
- Define boundaries between orchestration, retrieval, LLM interaction, and domain logic to create a scalable framework.
- Write performant production code and lead by example through implementation.
- Make foundational decisions on prompt architecture, multi-modal LLM integration, RAG patterns, and workflow orchestration.
- Ensure reliability and observability in AI systems meeting healthcare-grade standards.
- Collaborate with Data Science, Data Engineering, and Product teams to translate domain requirements into system design.
- Reduce technical debt and establish scalable architectural patterns.
- Mentor engineers on system design, API development, and building production-grade AI systems.
Requirements
- 10+ years in software engineering with proven experience owning system architecture at scale.
- Expertise in Python and Scala/Java, designing frameworks and writing idiomatic, well-structured APIs.
- Strong ability to design abstractions and determine appropriate boundaries in complex systems.
- Experience architecting agentic or multi-step reasoning systems integrating LLMs into production workflows.
- Background in designing large-scale systems handling unstructured data such as documents, medical records, and images.
- Deep understanding of API design principles and platform development for engineering teams.
- Proven experience productionizing AI/ML systems focusing on reliability, observability, and maintainability.
- Strong skills in system performance and scaling trade-offs.
- Solid computer science fundamentals including data structures, distributed systems, and asynchronous programming.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Spark, Flink, Kafka, Airflow, or Ray.
- Knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, and observability tools.
- Background in healthcare, fintech, or regulated industries.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with data scientists and ML engineers.
