About the Opportunity
The Director, Engineering leads the engineering team responsible for delivering a scalable platform that processes complex clinical trial data. This role focuses on executing the engineering roadmap, ensuring high-quality software delivery, optimizing Agile processes, and maintaining team health and collaboration. The position plays a key role in technical leadership, cross-functional communication, and talent development, directly impacting the organization's ability to support clinical research advancements.
Responsibilities
- Own the tactical execution of the engineering roadmap and ensure on-time delivery of software.
- Collaborate with Product and Design to translate requirements into clear milestones.
- Provide architectural guidance to unblock engineering teams and maintain platform stability.
- Drive development of predictive models and analytics tools with data and software engineers.
- Manage sprint capacity, resource allocation, and budget tracking.
- Optimize Agile ceremonies and workflows to improve delivery cadence.
- Manage Engineering Managers and Tech Leads, including career mentorship and hiring.
- Foster a high-performing, inclusive team culture and resolve interpersonal friction.
- Serve as primary technical liaison for project stakeholders, translating technical issues into operational terms.
Requirements
- BA or BS degree from college or university.
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience with 3+ years managing engineering teams.
- Proven experience leading Engineering Managers and Technical Leads.
- Experience delivering complex, data-intensive software products on time.
- Strong technical expertise in scalable architecture, cloud infrastructure, and data pipelines.
- Operational knowledge of Agile/Scrum, sprint planning, and CI/CD workflows.
- Ability to lead technical design reviews and manage technical debt.
- Exceptional communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience cultivating a collaborative team culture during growth phases.
- Preferred experience in HealthTech, Biotech, Clinical Trials, or Life Sciences.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
- The expected pay range for this role is $180,000 - $230,000 USD per year for full-time team members.
