Director of AI and Data Strategy

About the Opportunity

This organization develops scalable software solutions to enhance public safety and support first responders. The Director of AI and Data Strategy will lead how the organization leverages data, analytics, and AI to inform business decisions and create new opportunities. The role combines data architecture, AI enablement, and cross-functional insight generation, focusing on building scalable data infrastructure and intelligent systems while maintaining a hands-on approach to developing strategic prototypes and models.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the enterprise data and AI strategy aligned with business and product priorities
• Lead development of a scalable, trustworthy data platform consolidating disparate data sources into a single source of truth
• Establish standards for data governance, quality, observability, and responsible AI use in a regulated public-sector environment
• Collaborate with Product, Sales, Operations, and People teams to identify AI opportunities and prototype solutions quickly
• Guide design and deployment of AI-powered workflows, analytics, and decision-support systems beyond dashboards
• Work with Engineering to integrate intelligence into internal tools and future products
• Translate complex data and model outputs into actionable insights for executive and senior leaders
• Lead deep-dive analyses on revenue performance, operational efficiency, customer outcomes, or organizational health
• Build real-time, decision-oriented dashboards and metrics that drive accountability and results
• Advise senior leadership on data, AI, and emerging technology trends
• Align cross-functional stakeholders on shared metrics, priorities, and data-driven decisions
• Mentor and develop data and analytics talent as the function grows

Requirements

• 12+ years of professional experience, including 3+ years leading AI, analytics, or machine learning initiatives
• Proven experience designing and executing enterprise data strategies beyond reporting
• Strong technical knowledge of modern data stacks, BI tools, data modeling, and applied AI/ML concepts
• Hands-on ability to architect systems and build early prototypes when needed
• Skilled at influencing senior stakeholders and translating technical concepts into business outcomes
• Systems thinker with the ability to connect people, processes, data, and platforms
