About the Opportunity
The organization specializes in services and software for standards-based health-information exchange, dedicated to advancing public health and healthcare quality. This Data Scientist, Applied AI role plays a crucial part in enabling data-informed decision-making by designing and building AI-powered applications and tools. Utilizing existing AI models and Cloud infrastructure, the position aims to significantly enhance public health initiatives and health data interoperability.
Responsibilities
- Utilize analytic and visualization techniques to deliver actionable insights.
- Design, prototype, build, and maintain AI-powered tools using Python and established models like LLMs and embeddings.
- Iterate on prompts and workflows based on continuous testing and feedback; provide support for deployment and operational phases.
- Maintain current knowledge of emerging data science, AI, and machine learning tools and best practices.
- Access, combine, and analyze large, complex datasets; clean and wrangle data with appropriate guidance.
- Ensure the highest quality, integrity, and security standards for all data.
- Create comprehensive visualizations and perform in-depth analyses using statistical and machine learning methodologies.
- Present findings clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences, with support as required.
- Manage most tasks independently, seeking guidance for more complex responsibilities.
- Communicate results effectively to clients, management, and internal staff.
- Translate client and business requirements into formal technical specifications.
Requirements
- Associate's degree with at least three years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of relevant experience in data science, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Familiarity with analytic software (e.g., R, Databricks), Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), and big-data technologies (e.g., Spark).
- Basic Cloud literacy, including an understanding of containers and serverless computing; proficiency with APIs and SDKs (e.g., OpenAI, Azure, AWS).
- Familiarity with AI concepts pertinent to data applications (e.g., RAG, LangChain/LangGraph, Vector DBs).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on general tasks.
- Competence in applying diverse data analytics approaches.
- Ability to successfully complete a Level 5 Position of Public Trust background investigation if mandated.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with three years of relevant experience.
- Direct experience with large-dataset analysis for public health entities such as the CDC or CMS.

Compensation
The annual compensation for this role ranges from $75,000 to $95,000.
