The Cloud Operations Engineer plays a critical technical role within the global operations team, focused on cloud infrastructure management, production support, and security monitoring. This position ensures the reliability and performance of mission-critical systems across AWS, Windows, and Linux environments through continuous monitoring, incident response, and infrastructure management. The role operates within a follow-the-sun support model requiring shift coverage during weekends and holidays.Responsibilities
- Provide production support in a global follow-the-sun operations model, monitoring systems and responding to incidents to maintain service continuity.
- Monitor infrastructure and application health through security and operations dashboards; manage alerts and SLA reporting.
- Deploy, manage, and maintain AWS infrastructure with emphasis on EC2 workloads across Windows and Linux.
- Configure and manage load balancers, including URL rewrite rules, routing policies, and SSL termination.
- Design and maintain high-availability AWS architectures with redundancy and failover procedures.
- Oversee backup and disaster recovery operations, including scheduling and restoration testing.
- Automate configuration management and application deployments using Ansible.
- Manage relational database infrastructure, including provisioning, patching, tuning, and backups.
- Troubleshoot and configure AWS networking components such as VPC, subnets, routing, DNS, and security groups.
- Handle incident escalation, maintain documentation, and contribute to support process improvements.
- Maintain runbooks and operational documentation; support automation initiatives.
- Support the transition to microservices and containerized architectures by providing operational expertise.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, or production support.
- Availability for occasional weekend shift coverage in a follow-the-sun model.
- Proficient with AWS services including EC2, ALB/NLB, VPC, S3, and Backup.
- Experience administering Windows and Linux servers in IaaS environments.
- Skilled in Ansible for configuration management and application deployments.
- Experience designing and maintaining multi-AZ, auto-scaling, high-availability AWS architectures.
- Knowledge of load balancer configurations including URL rewrite and routing rules.
- Solid understanding of AWS networking components and VPN connectivity.
- Experience managing relational databases (MSSQL, Postgres, Oracle) including patching and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with security and operations monitoring, alert triage, and incident escalation.
- Ability to interpret infrastructure and application performance metrics.
- Proficient in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
- Preferred qualifications include AWS certifications, infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation), ITSM systems (Zendesk), monitoring platforms (Grafana), and familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
- Starting salary of $120,000 per year.
