Job Description
Game Systems and Economy Designer
This is a full-time 6 months contract role, with a possible path to permanent employment for the right fit. You will own the numerical backbone of Redly's upcoming free-to-play mobile adventure game built in Unreal Engine.
Role Overview
You will take high-level systems design direction and transform it into balanced, implementable features and numbers. Responsibilities include creating progression curves, resource economies, earn and spend rates, and ensuring the systems feel right. You will also contribute product insights by prototyping player progression, simulating game loops, and bringing an analytical perspective to design discussions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop systems designs from high-level direction.
- Own and maintain the game's economy balance sheets.
- Model interconnected resource economies.
- Translate design direction into numerical models.
- Prototype and simulate player progression and meta game loops.
- Flag potential system issues proactively.
- Collaborate directly with engineers for implementation.
- Contribute to monetization design for live service game.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in game economy or systems balancing.
- Advanced spreadsheet skills in Excel or Google Sheets.
- Strong systems thinking to manage interconnected dependencies.
- Understanding of mobile free-to-play economies and progression.
- Familiarity with programming concepts (Google Apps Script, Python, etc.).
- Clear communication and proactive approach.
Nice to Have
- Board game or tabletop design experience.
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine or similar game engines.
- Personal game projects.
