Job Description

The Red Gate Group is seeking a Data Engineer to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Reston, VA. In this role, you will transform complex, data-rich environments into actionable intelligence that impacts national security. You will collaborate with mission stakeholders, mentor team members, and apply advanced AI/ML techniques to build scalable data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with stakeholders to define data requirements.
• Design and implement algorithms, models, and processes for complex datasets.
• Apply AI/ML techniques and statistical modeling to operational challenges.
• Evaluate algorithms for risks, biases, and limitations.
• Mentor team members and contribute to technical excellence.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis and iterate rapidly on large datasets.
• Present findings and recommendations for leadership decisions.

Qualifications:

Minimum 5+ years’ experience in computer science, data science, or computational engineering using Python, Java, R, or C++. Strong background in AI/ML, mathematical/statistical models, and developing data algorithms for intelligence applications is required. An active TS/SCI clearance and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Statistics are necessary.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with Big Data platforms such as Spark and Hadoop.
• Experience integrating and analyzing data from disparate sources.
• Familiarity with local compute clusters using Dask.
• Knowledge of containerized deployment (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
• Master’s degree in a related field is a plus.
