Job Description
About the Opportunity
The Valuations Group, part of Product Control, provides a critical second line of defense for the fair valuation of financial instruments within RBC Capital Markets. In this role, you will be responsible for pricing and independently verifying (Independent Price Verification, IPV) Equity and Equity Derivative products to ensure they accurately reflect traded markets. IPV results and any Valuation Adjustments (VAs) are reported and communicated at least monthly. You will collaborate closely with Finance, Front Office Trading teams, and Enterprise/Market Risk (including Model Validation).
What You Will Do
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly IPV and VA calculations for various Equity-related products, including listed and OTC options, variance swaps, dividend swaps, volatility swaps, exotic options, cliquets, and equity-linked notes. Coverage spans Canada, US, EMEA, and APAC markets across global Equity desks at RBC.
- Utilize technology such as Python and leverage AI tools like Aiden to enhance Valuation/Market-related analytics, adding value for stakeholders.
- Develop new and enhance existing Valuation policies, including methodology, procedure documentation, and external market data sources, ensuring compliance with RBC’s risk policies and procedures.
- Leverage and develop knowledge of equity markets, products, and quantitative principles to evaluate IPV results and support the resolution of IPV differences.
- Ensure IPV issues outside accepted tolerances are reported and addressed promptly.
- Explore market data sources to identify the best measures of fair value for the financial instruments in scope, particularly equity derivatives.
- Ensure existing VA/IPV processes keep pace with a growing Equities business and align with Regulator and Accounting Best Practice.
- Provide detailed reports and analysis to RBC regional valuations committees, business heads, senior managers, and heads of Valuations, Market Risk, and Finance.
- Proactively communicate with Front Office and/or counterparties to explain IPV/VA results and month-over-month movements.
- Lead the coordination of solutions in partnership with Product Controllers, Front Office, Market Risk, and other internal groups.
- Design, maintain, and operate a robust valuations environment to ensure fair value compliance for Equity Derivative and Equity products.
- Challenge existing IPV methodologies and working practices, improving data quality and process efficiencies for a robust control environment.
Note: This role is open for both Analyst/Manager levels, depending on the candidate's experience.
