Job Description
What Will You Do?
As a Principal Crypto & Digital Assets Architect at RBC, you will lead the architecture design and governance for critical cryptocurrency and blockchain initiatives across various lines of business. This includes developing solutions for stablecoins, trading platforms, custody solutions, and payment rails.
You will define and evangelize architectural patterns, standards, and best practices for blockchain technologies, smart contracts, digital wallets, and decentralized systems. Collaborating with business stakeholders, product teams, and technology leaders, you will translate strategic objectives into comprehensive architecture roadmaps and robust technical solutions.
A core part of your role will involve evaluating emerging blockchain protocols, consensus mechanisms, Layer-2 solutions, and digital asset technologies to assess their applicability to RBC's business objectives. You will also ensure architecture compliance with a range of regulatory requirements, including AML/KYC, securities regulations, banking standards, and jurisdiction-specific crypto regulations.
Furthermore, you will drive cross-functional initiatives for blockchain interoperability, on-chain/off-chain integration, and seamless connectivity between traditional banking systems and digital asset platforms. This role includes providing technical mentorship and guidance to development teams, platform engineers, and architects implementing these cutting-edge blockchain and cryptocurrency solutions. Staying ahead of industry trends such as DeFi, tokenization, stablecoin frameworks, and institutional crypto adoption will be crucial to inform strategic decisions.
What Do You Need To Succeed?
Must Have:
- 8+ years of experience in enterprise architecture with at least 3+ years focused on blockchain, cryptocurrency, or digital assets in financial services or fintech environments.
- Deep technical expertise in blockchain platforms (Ethereum, Bitcoin), consensus mechanisms, smart contract development, and distributed ledger technologies.
- Proven track record architecting large-scale systems for digital asset trading, custody, payment processing, or stablecoin infrastructure with focus on security, scalability, and reliability.
- Understanding of cryptocurrency regulations, compliance frameworks (AML/KYC, Travel Rule), custody standards, and risk management for digital assets.
- Extensive experience with enterprise integration patterns, API design, microservices architecture, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), and DevSecOps practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to translate complex blockchain concepts to non-technical executives and influence architectural decisions across the organization.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with stablecoin architectures, tokenization frameworks, atomic swaps, cross-chain bridges, or Layer-2 scaling solutions (Lightning Network, Polygon, Optimism).
- Knowledge of cryptographic primitives, zero-knowledge proofs, multi-party computation (MPC), hardware security modules (HSMs), and secure key management systems.
- Familiarity with DeFi protocols, decentralized exchanges (DEXs), liquidity pools, yield farming, or smart contract security auditing.
- Contributions to blockchain open-source projects, published research in digital assets, or active participation in crypto/blockchain technical communities.
