Specialist, Claims Settlement, Individual Disability Insurance (Bilingual)
As a Specialist, Claims Settlement, Disability at RBC Insurance, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team with expertise in various areas, dedicated to providing excellent customer service while managing risk management strategies that impact company reputation, regulatory risk, customer relations, financial results, and customer loyalty.

This role is available in the following provinces: Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Alberta, and Manitoba.
Responsibilities
- Assessment: Proactively assess individual disability insurance claims based on medical evidence, professional knowledge, and contractual provisions to determine benefit eligibility, ensuring decisions are objective, fair, and well-documented.
- Client Communication: Provide clear, empathetic, and timely communication to clients, whether delivering good news about claim approval or sensitive news about a denial.
- Critical Analysis and Decision Making: Use critical thinking to make timely decisions based on claim assessment.
- Negotiation and Resolution: Clearly explain claim decisions, both in writing and verbally, addressing concerns to foster resolution and mutual respect.
- Claims Management: Efficiently manage a high volume of files, calculate benefit amounts, and proactively support clients in their return-to-work journey, if applicable.
- Relationship Building: Establish strong relationships with clients and essential partners to facilitate recovery and return to work.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Seamlessly collaborate with cross-functional teams, including medical, legal, and customer service specialists, throughout the settlement process to ensure consistent outcomes.
Key Elements for Success
Requirements
- Post-secondary or college diploma.
- At least two years of experience in managing disability claims.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is required, as you will serve clients and interact with colleagues and partners in both languages across Canada.
- Experience in health, finance, or a related sector: you will review medical and financial information, as well as policy wordings.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to conduct emotionally sensitive conversations with empathy and professionalism.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a proven ability to manage complex information and make evidence-based decisions.
- Strong analytical thinking, judgment, and risk management skills. Ability to work independently; strong organizational and time management skills to optimize strategic outcomes.
- Proficiency with digital tools, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and the ability to use multiple systems.
- Basic math skills and a solid understanding of financial information.
- Ability to meet the role's technology and privacy requirements (internet connectivity and private space).

- Knowledge of data analysis and experience using Tableau.
- Claims processing experience (will be removed for specialist).
