The Role

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is seeking a Product Designer on a 6 month contract to join our Product Design Team. Reporting to the Senior Director of User Experience, you will play a key role in delivering outstanding product design capabilities and features to connect cross-functional teams with our readers worldwide. Our products are crafted by and for readers, focusing on optimal experiences on eReaders, mobile apps, and responsive web platforms.

The Person Will Ideally Have

Strong design thinking, process, and execution skills, with a solid aesthetic and experience in delivering design solutions based on qualitative research and user testing. You should understand accessibility and WCAG standards, and have excellent communication and collaborative skills. Proficiency in UX/UI design tools like Figma and FigJam is required.

Collaboration

You will work alongside architects, developers, researchers, analysts, product owners, and product management across multiple platforms and geographies. Cultural diversity and cross-cultural team dynamics are integral to this role.

Design Strategy & Planning

You will contribute to the design vision of the product roadmap, integrating customer-centric research into design decisions while translating business requirements and user needs into creative solutions. Participation in stakeholder workshops and creating design stories and acceptance criteria are key responsibilities.

Design Creativity

Drive our design culture by focusing on user intent and shareholder value. Help build and implement a best-in-class design system and component library.

Required Skillset

  • 2-3 years of product/UX design experience.
  • High proficiency with Figma and FigJam.
  • Strong portfolio with wireframes, prototypes, and design artifacts.
  • Experience facilitating stakeholder workshops.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Storybook, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Zeplin or InVision.
  • Background in eReading, ecommerce, entertainment or software.
  • Familiarity with Agile environments and basic web technologies.
