Internship - Mechanical Engineer (Fluid Systems, Mechanisms, Structures)

Overview

Radiant is an El-Segundo, CA-based clean energy startup building a nuclear microreactor. The Kaleidos 1MW microreactor is set to be the world's first portable, zero-emissions power source that works anywhere, bringing power to remote areas and providing backup for critical applications.

Position Details

This internship is for a Mechanical Engineer focusing on fluid systems, mechanisms, or structures. As part of the KDU Engineering team, you will work on the design, assembly, and testing of the Kaleidos Development Unit – the first new fueled reactor design in over 50 years in the United States.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Manage a project within your engineering discipline.
• Finalize design, assembly, and testing for the KDU.
• Deliver the project on time with minimal supervision.
• Present a detailed project review to engineers and leadership.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, statics, dynamics, and strength of materials.
• Pursuing a BS in mechanical, aerospace engineering, or related field.
• Hands-on project experience via extracurriculars, research, or labs.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

• Pursuing an MS in related engineering disciplines.
• High independence in solving challenging engineering tasks.
• Excellent proactive and collaborative attitude in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Knowledge of reactor physics is a plus.

Additional Requirements

• Internship is onsite at the El Segundo HQ.
• Extended hours or weekends may be required occasionally.
