Senior Staff Product Designer at Questrade Financial Group
We are looking for a passionate and visionary Senior Staff Product Designer to not just maintain our design system, but to elevate it into a strategic advantage that accelerates our entire product organization through technical design expertise and strategic systems thinking. This is a high-impact role for a systems-thinker who is excited to build the tools that empower dozens of designers and engineers to do their best work.
As the Senior Staff Product Designer for Design Systems, you will be the deep domain expert and a key craft leader. You will be directly responsible for the most complex and foundational design system work, owning the roadmap, driving the technical design strategy, and forging a strong partnership with engineering to build a system that is robust, scalable, and a joy to use. You will be its chief advocate, evangelizing its value and driving adoption to create a more cohesive, accessible, and beautiful experience for every Questrade customer.
The ideal candidate is a craft expert who combines deep, hands-on expertise in design systems with a proven ability to influence and coach cross-functional teams and fellow designers around a shared vision through the quality and impact of their work.
Drive the Design System Vision & Strategy
- Define and communicate a clear, compelling vision and strategic roadmap for the AllSparks Design System, aligning it with our overall product and business goals.
- Be the strategic IC owner of the end-to-end lifecycle of the design system, from discovery and component design to documentation, release, and ongoing maintenance.
- Establish and govern a clear contribution and adoption model, making it easy for product teams to use the system and contribute back to it.
- Measure and articulate the system's success, tying its adoption to measurable improvements in product quality, team efficiency, and speed-to-market.
Deliver Design & Operational Excellence
- Lead by example as the primary, hands-on designer for the most robust and scalable components, ensuring everything we build meets the highest standards of usability, accessibility, and craft.
- Create and maintain world-class documentation that is clear, comprehensive, and empowers designers and developers to work with confidence and autonomy.
- Partner closely with engineering leads to ensure the system is technically sound and that design intent is translated flawlessly into code.
- Continuously research and introduce new tools, methodologies, and best practices to improve the quality and efficiency of the design system itself.
Influence Team & Cross-Functional Success
- Act as the primary advocate and evangelist for the Design System across the organization.
- Build strong partnerships with product design, engineering, and brand teams to ensure the system anticipates their needs and fosters a cohesive user experience.
- Act as a recognized craft leader and coach for system contributors, providing direct, actionable critique and guidance to the two existing design system designers and other product designers, focusing on systems thinking and component craft.
- Lead by example: Elevate the entire team's work by establishing and demonstrating the highest standards of quality, process, and technical implementation within the design file.
- Lead engaging design reviews, workshops, and training sessions to educate teams on the system and drive consistent, high-quality adoption.
Required Technical Skills
- Expert proficiency in Figma, with deep experience using advanced features like variants, auto layout, and component properties to build scalable design systems.
- A strong understanding of front-end development and the ability to hold technical conversations with engineering partners.
- Deep knowledge of accessibility standards and how to build accessible components from the ground up.
- Experience creating and maintaining comprehensive design system documentation that developers and designers love to use.
Required Leadership & Collaboration Skills
- You don't just see components; you see the entire ecosystem. You excel at designing scalable, reusable solutions for the most complex challenges.
- You build strong relationships and influence design direction and best practices across cross-functional teams with your expertise and passion.
- You can clearly articulate the "why" behind the design system, connecting its value to business outcomes and inspiring stakeholders at every level.
- You find genuine satisfaction in mentoring and coaching system designers through your expertise, providing the technical direction and hands-on guidance they need to grow.
- You lead by example and are committed to elevating the craft of the entire team.
Required Experience & Track Record
- 7+ years of product design (UX/UI) experience, with at least 3 years in a Staff/Senior Individual Contributor role focused specifically on driving and scaling a design system.
- A strong portfolio with detailed case studies showcasing your direct, hands-on process for building and scaling a design system, and its impact on product quality and team efficiency.
- Proven track record of launching and providing the deep design expertise for a design system in a complex product organization.
Bonus Qualifications
