Position Overview
The Software Engineer - Internationalization & Localization role at Quantum Technology Recruiting Inc. (QTR) is a backend-focused contract position. The role involves working on foundational platform systems to ensure a global consumer platform operates seamlessly across different countries, languages, currencies, and regions. Although localization roles are typically frontend-heavy, this position emphasizes backend development with some full-stack exposure when required.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend internationalization infrastructure using Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
- Develop locale-aware APIs supporting language, country, and regional behavior.
- Build backend services for multiple currencies and exchange handling.
- Support time zones and regional date/time formats.
- Enable unit of measurement conversions (e.g., lbs vs kg, miles vs km).
- Identify and refactor legacy code with US-only assumptions.
- Create reusable platform capabilities for multiple product teams.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers, product teams, and platform stakeholders.
- Support global expansion initiatives and contribute to architectural decisions.
- Occasionally support full-stack development using TypeScript when required.
Required & Preferred Experience
Must-Have: Strong backend experience using Ruby/Ruby on Rails, understanding of APIs, data modeling, and distributed systems, experience building scalable and reusable infrastructure services, and a comfort level collaborating across teams.
Nice to Have: Experience with TypeScript, exposure to internationalization/localization, and an interest in global-scale platform challenges.
