Automation Specialist Deepwater

Quality Process Services - QPS is seeking a seasoned Automation Technician with mid-level technical skills and expert insights. The candidate will handle automation design, control strategies, and troubleshooting of PLC logic control systems for offshore oil and gas production operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Install, program, calibrate, and maintain automation equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair automation systems to maximize efficiency.
  • Provide on-site automation support for offshore operations.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot control systems, instrumentation, and HMI interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain PLC programs using ladder logic, structured text, and function blocks.
  • Utilize CMMS (such as SAP) for maintenance tracking.
  • Participate in design reviews and process hazard analysis.
  • Assist with MOC process and project planning.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years as an Automation Specialist and 5+ years in oil field operations.
  • Advanced skills in programming, troubleshooting, and instrumentation.
  • Experience with Rockwell (Allen Bradley) Studio 5000 and WonderWare InTouch Classic.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (API, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ISA).
  • Proficient with MS Office and Windows OS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automation with GPA 3.0+.
  • 9+ years in oil field experience including 5+ years in upstream automation.
  • Ability to read technical documents like P&IDs and wiring diagrams.
  • Advanced troubleshooting of control networks and OT Network skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to be on-call and travel for FATs within the Gulf Coast Region.
  • Comfortable working under fit testing conditions and from aerial platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
