Job Description
About the Role
Qualcomm IT is seeking a skilled Kubernetes Platform Engineer to join a mature and experienced team. This role focuses on the construction, deployment, management, automation, and troubleshooting of high-performance bare-metal on-premise and cloud-based multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters, primarily utilizing Rancher. You will work with various Kubernetes distributions including RKE2 (on-prem) and GKE, EKS, AKS (cloud).
Key Responsibilities
- Construct, deploy, manage, automate, and troubleshoot high-performance Kubernetes clusters.
- Monitor performance and availability of all Kubernetes clusters, including GPU acceleration.
- Develop and deploy platform automation scripts and software.
- Engage in project work for system automation, Kubernetes version testing, and platform modernization.
- Implement and troubleshoot novel Kubernetes multi-tenancy patterns like vcluster.
- Migrate Gatekeeper OPA policies to Validating Admission Policy.
Minimum Qualifications
- 4+ years of IT-related work experience with a Bachelor's degree, OR 7+ years of IT-related work experience without a Bachelor’s degree.
- Comfortable using and developing on Linux (especially Ubuntu) as a primary OS.
- 2+ years of Kubernetes administration experience.
- Advanced proficiency in Kustomize or Helm (preferably both).
- Intermediate knowledge of Kubernetes networking internals, particularly Cilium.
- Direct experience deploying and maintaining enterprise Kubernetes clusters.
- Advanced proficiency with Docker+ContainerD and Linux container internals.
- Advanced proficiency with Git and Github.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Kubernetes control plane architecture and troubleshooting.
- Intermediate proficiency with Python and Bash scripting.
- Comfortable with Agile project management using JIRA.
Beneficial Additional Experience
- Recent CKAD and CKA certifications; CKS certification is a plus.
- Bare-metal Kubernetes management with Rancher and RKE2.
- Cloud Kubernetes management across GKE, EKS, and AKS.
- Experience with Datadog for log/metrics collection and dashboarding.
- Ability to write Operators in Python using KOPF.
- Familiarity with Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Gatekeeper OPA.
- Experience with Kubernetes Ingress/Gateway API implementations.
- Deployment and management of Portworx and MetalLB.
- Creating CI/CD workflows using Github Actions.
- Experience with GPU-accelerated workloads in Kubernetes.
- Deployment and management of Kueue, Argo Workflows, RunAI, Kubeflow, etc.
