Lead Engineer (Remote)
We are seeking a Lead Engineer to architect and build the automation engine powering an AI-enhanced governance ruleset within a rapidly evolving DeFi ecosystem. This is a high-impact technical leadership role at an early-stage startup incubated by one of the longest-running and most influential decentralized finance protocols on Ethereum, stewarding $8B+ in Total Value Locked. The role sits at the center of a major ecosystem transformation initiative (“Endgame”), building AI-augmented, malleable tools designed for deep knowledge work and governance at scale.

Mission & Context
The platform is rethinking governance software through the concept of malleable systems — adaptable, AI-augmented environments that evolve alongside their users. Rather than static applications, these systems are designed to be reshaped, extended, and customized through AI collaboration. The Lead Engineer will build foundational automation systems and data infrastructure in Phase 1, then evolve into architecting deep knowledge-work interfaces and AI-agent infrastructure in Phase 2.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and build the automation engine for an AI-powered governance ruleset
- Optimize governance workflows and automate proposal processes
- Lead platform and interface foundations for AI-augmented knowledge work
- Build production-grade systems with strong observability, testing, and rollback paths
- Drive milestones, communicate risks, and ship iteratively
What You’ll Build
Phase 1 — Workflow Automation & Data Infrastructure
- Deterministic Notion → Supabase importer (hierarchy, numbering, integrity validation, JSON export)
- Block-ID mapping, change tracking, hierarchical diffing
- Automated governance proposal generation with citations and traceability
- Safe sync-back to canonical governance documents
- Risk analytics data platform integrating: Blockchain nodes, DEX APIs, Price feeds, Lending protocol data
- Schemas for chain data, market data, and DeFi protocol state
- Data quality checks and historical accuracy validation
- Deterministic monitoring, alerting, and validation layers
- AI-queryable data substrate for risk analysis
Phase 2 — Deep Knowledge-Work IDE Foundations
- Atlas Tree Explorer (large-tree virtualization, multi-select modes, structure linting)
- Side-by-side hierarchical diff interfaces
- Evidence/citation sidebars and rationale tracing
- Future-state preview trees with consistency checks and impact summaries
- Novel cognitive interfaces (graph-outline hybrids, spatial canvases, dynamic lenses)
- AI agent execution environments (MCP-based agents, tool definitions, provenance tracking, guardrails)
- Human+AI workflow interfaces
- Cryptographic proof systems (Merkle trees, commitment schemes)
- Event-sourcing architecture with full provenance tracking
- Identity and permission systems that scale across human and AI agents
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years building production-grade back-end/server-side systems
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js
- Advanced SQL skills with relational modeling (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Experience building data pipelines integrating third-party APIs
- Working proficiency in at least one of: Python, Go, Rust, or Java
- Without strong backend production experience, advanced SQL modeling skills, and multi-language backend proficiency, candidates should not proceed.
