About the Role

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) at PTC Therapeutics is a dedicated field-based position requiring extensive travel throughout Italy (75%-80%). This role within Medical Affairs supports and represents PTC and its products to key opinion leaders (KOLs), clinicians, academic institutions, and professional organizations. The MSL addresses specific client needs by responding to unsolicited requests for information about PTC's marketed and developing products.

As the clinical and medical expert for the company's products and relevant therapeutic areas, the MSL builds long-term relationships and establishes rapport with clinicians in hospitals, clinics, and academic centers. This is achieved through highly scientific product and disease state discussions that support or expand current therapeutic concepts, ensuring safe and effective utilization of products and meeting identified unmet medical needs.

The Medical Science Liaison also serves as a valuable resource to company management regarding market dynamics, business development, and client feedback. The incumbent works cross-functionally with internal departments and external resources on Medical Science-related issues, accountable for identifying, organizing, and executing regional medical initiatives and tactics according to plan. The Medical Science Liaison supports adherence to relevant regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Attends national and regional medical meetings and symposia as a representative of PTC, engaging in appropriate discussions, gathering information, summarizing findings, and cultivating professional relationships.
  • Delivers, and may develop/design, fair-balanced and objective clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare professionals (HCPs), payors, and patient organizations in response to unsolicited requests for information on company products.
  • Identifies and trains speakers for advisory boards, symposia, and educational programs using regulatory approved materials.
  • Identifies, organizes, and carries out regional medical initiatives (e.g., advisory boards, round tables) as needed.
  • Provides input to management regarding alternative therapies, business development opportunities/risks, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Establishes, manages, and maintains successful relations with relevant health authorities, including KOLs, HCPs, academic institutions, payors, and patient organizations.
  • Facilitates the accurate and timely submission of applications for unrestricted educational grants or research initiatives and requests for study support, per company policy.
  • Maintains thorough awareness of medical/clinical, regulatory, compliance, and quality issues pertinent to PTC therapeutic areas, adhering to company standards.
  • Keeps current on competitor information relevant to company goals, project activities, and product team priorities, staying abreast of therapeutic advances and competing therapies.
  • Analyzes and applies relevant intelligence findings, communicating and presenting insightful data/impact efficiently to appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the scientific education of colleagues from other functions (e.g., commercial, marketing).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline.
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related environment.
  • Knowledge of the Italian Health System.
  • Previous experience in Rare Diseases or Neurosciences will be positively valuable.
  • Hands-on experience working with KOLs, clinicians, HCPs, payors, and/or academic institutions, establishing/maintaining relationships and scientific/medical credibility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including scientific/technical writing and presentations/trainings, with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical information.
  • Ability to work independently with excellent problem-solving skills and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Fluent English and Italian is essential.
