Job Description

About the Role: Intermediate Data Engineer

Progressive is seeking an Intermediate Data Engineer to join the new IT Data Management Team within IT Control. This role is pivotal in optimizing data infrastructure and expanding data pipelines, contributing to advanced data and analytic solutions like data science, AI, and machine learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Data Engineer Lead, BI Developer, and IT Control Data Analysts to optimize data and expand pipeline infrastructure.
  • Build robust data solutions for data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other advanced analytics.
  • Drive faster time-to-insights by automating data orchestration and eliminating manual data preparation bottlenecks.
  • Enable analysts to extract and analyze data more rapidly, reducing time to insights.
  • Eliminate data silos, unlock valuable data, and enhance data governance by centralizing disparate data sources.
  • Position IT data for scalable growth, managing data ingestion and transformation jobs as data complexity and volumes increase.
  • Research industry trends and Progressive enterprise-wide data/architecture capabilities.
  • Implement new techniques and provide technical recommendations to advance Progressive's data strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in an Information Technology discipline or related field of study, plus a minimum of one year of experience designing, programming, and supporting software programs or applications.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of two years of related work experience designing, programming, and supporting software programs or applications may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience building data pipelines for collecting, transforming, and integrating data from various sources, including calling external APIs.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms like AWS (S3) and cloud services such as Snowflake, with experience in data replication, orchestration, and transformation tools (e.g., Prefect, DBT, Airflow, or similar tech stack).
  • Strong programming skills in languages and tools like Python, R, SQL, SSIS, Power Automate/PowerApps.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the data lifecycle, from ideation and ETL/ELT processes through deployment of data products, ensuring efficient data enablement and reporting solutions.
  • Experience with CI/CD automation (e.g., Jenkins or Azure DevOps), Unix/Shell scripting, and data warehouses.
  • Ability to write clear and thorough technical documentation.

Compensation & Benefits

This remote position offers a competitive salary range of $97,650 - $106,330/year, along with an annual cash incentive payment up to 30% of eligible earnings based on company performance. Work Arrangement

This is a remote position for US-based work only, with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm ET.
